Independent Silk Testing & Editorial Standards
At SilkGuides, we test luxury silk apparel using standardized textile laboratory protocols so you know exactly what grade of silk you are buying.
Our 4-Stage Silk Testing Protocol
We verify fabric weight per square meter using precision digital scales and perform microscopic fiber burning tests to confirm 100% natural protein mulberry silk fibers with zero synthetic polyester fillers.
Because silk lacks natural synthetic elastane, seam strength is critical. We stress-test crotch and hip seams to evaluate French seams, flat-felled stitches, and reinforcement gussets.
We test each pair against backlit studio illumination to measure lux transmission, verifying whether pants are fully opaque for daytime streetwear or semi-translucent for bed and lounge use.
We subject each model to 5 wash cycles using gentle pH-neutral silk detergent, monitoring shrinkage, luster preservation, seam puckering, and ease of steam de-wrinkling.
